A hematoma, also spelled haematoma, or blood suffusion is a localized bleeding outside of blood vessels, due to either disease or trauma including injury or surgery [1] and may involve blood continuing to seep from broken capillaries. A haematoma is a dark red/black palpable collection of clotted or partially clotted blood in the tissues outside of the vessels standing proud of the skin, usually caused by blunt force trauma to the veins or arteries.
