Dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS), also known as perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens or Hoffman disease, is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the scalp characterized by boggy, suppurative nodules that are often associated with patchy hair loss (picture 1A-E). Perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens, also known as dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS) or Hoffman disease, is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the scalp characterized by fluctuating, interconnecting nodules (Fig. 3). Neutrophil-associated scarring alopecias include folliculitis decalvans, perifolliculitis capitis abscendens et suffodiens (of Hoffman), and acne keloidalis nuchae.
